On May 4th and 5th, the FC Wisconsin Eclipse U14 team played their second and final ECNL Inter-Conference Event of the year at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Denver, CO. Coming off an impressive conference win over the Michigan Hawks the prior week, the team showed once again that they can compete with anyone in the country, finishing with 2 wins and 1 loss against some of the top teams in the ECNL Mountain Conference.
ECNL Inter-Conference Events are designed to provide teams the opportunity to play opponents from different conferences, in preparation for the ECNL National Showcase Events that begin at the U15 age group. In Denver, the U14s opened with a loss against Colorado Rush, in a very tough game that matched teams that may be fighting for conference championships for years into the future. In the second game of the weekend, the team beat a very talented Real Colorado team before finishing the weekend with a decisive win against the Utah Avalanche. Currently, Real Colorado sits in second place in the Mountain Conference, Colorado Rush sits in third, and Utah Avalanche is in seventh.
During the 2012-13 season, each U14 ECNL team played in 2 Inter-Conference Events. The FC Wisconsin Eclipse team finished with 4 wins and 2 losses in these events. The Fall Inter-Conference Event saw them matched against the Texas Conference.
For the rest of May and June, the U14s now look to playing their final 4 Midwest Conference games of the year - where they will be fighting to claim second place in one of the toughest conferences in the country, and the automatic berth in the ECNL National Finals that goes with it.
