FC WI - Madison U11s Shine at Rush Spring Classic!

Over the weekend April 30 and May 1, the FC WI - Madison U11 girls showed the huge advancements in ideas and skill that they have made in the past 9 months of training in this new program with great soccer and intelligent, creative performances at the Wisconsin Rush Spring Classic.

Playing in misty rain, a few downpours, and the occasional moment of sun, the team showed determination to open the field in possession, play out from the goalkeeper, and connect passes through every third of the field as they created dozens of chances and goal after goal throughout the tournament.  You can see a great example of their patience and skill in this video, as they work the ball almost the length of the field in this build-up:

"Our curriculum is about long-term player development, and teaching players how to read and understand the game to keep possession, create space and chances, and be intelligent soccer players," said coach Christina Toda.  "The progress the players have made in understanding where to move, when to move, how to find space, and how to connect with each other is tremendous.  This weekend showed publicly what we have seen in training for months, and it was a lot of fun."

"Over the past few weeks as we have been able to continue to add more complexity into our training sessions, we have also been able to offer opportunities to our players from both Madison and Milwaukee to play together in a few competitions, and it is clear that the players in both sites are being taught and trained the same way for long-term success," said coach Hayley Siegel.  "When they can step on the field together and show the same ideas, the same intent, and the same type of game understanding and skill, it is clear that our training methods are being very effective and the kids are having a great time expressing themselves."

The FC WI - Madison program will be significantly expanding next season, as the club will host U11, U12, and U13 teams in Madison this fall as the partnership with Verona Area Soccer Club continues to grow.  At the same time, the FC WI - Milwaukee program continues to grow and develop as more Milwaukee area players are seeing the benefit of being an ASPIRING player at FC Wisconsin.
