ECNL Teams Finish Fall Home-stand Strong

The final weeks of fall Midwest Conference play were extremely positive for the entire FC Wisconsin ECNL program.  In the final homestand of the year, the club went a combined 6-3-5 across games against EGA (twice) and Eclipse Select North.

The U15’s led the way with three wins from three games, all hard fought 1-0 wins.  Potentially the best result was an impressive 1-0 performance against Eclipse North, with Emme Dumbauld scoring the winner to avenge a defeat to the same team earlier in the season.  With three shutouts led by Riley Franklin in goal, Megan Cornell and Lillie Tabor at center back, the U15 team are becoming a resilient group and a tough match for anyone.

This season both the U13 and U14 teams have shown that they are more than ready for successful careers in the ECNL.  Both teams tied against Eclipse North, and will feel as though they deserved better based on the lion's share of possession.  The ability to keep the ball and build possession against even the toughest conference opponents this season has without doubt a positive, but with the majority of their ECNL schedule to be played in the spring season, they will hope to find more of an edge to turn possession in to points.

The fight to find consistency has seemed to be the key for the U16s.  Perhaps most representative of this was the 3-0 loss to EGA followed up with a 3-0 win over the same team the following day.   The fall season concluded with a good performance and a narrow defeat to a strong Eclipse team.  The team's attacking play, led by the performances of Lilliah Blum and Sofia Englund has been encouraging to watch, however the collective effort to defend and regain possession needs to be improved upon - a theme from prior years.

The U17 team have finished strongly, and in particular shown significant improvements in toughness and defending as a group.   Two ties against EGA and a win over Eclipse North will surely generate some much needed momentum as they head to the ECNL showcase in Phoenix next week. The games were further highlighted by some great goals including an unbelievable individual effort from Tyler-Rose Ayudan against EGA and a pair of thunderous strikes against Eclipse from Haley Johnson and Tori Bunz respectively.

The U18’s have at times shown a lack of a cutting edge this fall, failing to turn large amounts of possession into goals.  After a dramatic and late 1-2 loss to Eclipse in mid-October, they had an up and down weekend against EGA with a tie on day 1 and a loss on day 2.  They would come out fighting against Eclipse North the following week however, to secure a well-deserved 2-0 win on the back of goals from Hailey Rothwell and Tyler Wilson. They will now look forward to what will be for some, the final ECNL showcase of their youth soccer careers in Phoenix, AZ, on November 8-10.
