ECNL 13 and 14 Continue Great Spring Run of Form

ECNL 13 and 14 Continue Great Spring Run of Form

The FC Wisconsin U13 & U14 ECNL teams were looking to continue their recent run of good form last weekend as Eclipse Solar SC made the short trip up from Chicago on Sunday.

With grit, determination and great play, FC Wisconsin took all 6 points with the U13s winning 2-0, and U14s winning 3-1.

The U13’s continued to show that they are capable of dominating possession when on form, and they were determined to turn their good work in to goals.  They got their reward as they raced to an early 2-0 lead with goals from Izzy Plesac and Victoria Gonzalez, the second of which capped off a great passing move that started with the goalkeeper.

Although they did not add to their lead, the U13s continued to press and win the ball back immediately, and to circulate it quickly looking for openings to create chances all game. Reese Berge and Sophie Petta ran tirelessly, while full-backs Jessica Howard and Kennedy Ross drove forward creating overloads and combinations with wide players Bella Jackson and Victoria Gonzalez. The level of performance never dropped and the home team was stingy in conceding even half-chances.  Any potential or near to become opportunities for the opposition were quickly snuffed out and turned in to attacks by center backs Addie Frantz and Anna Ohm.

The U14 team were up next and were immediately in a more competitive game against a physical and direct Eclipse team. Despite some early chances, a moment of miscommunication between goalkeeper and defender allowed an Eclipse forward to sneak in and give the visitors the lead. Undeterred, FC Wisconsin continued to press, with Alyssa Thomas and Maria Nebel forming a dangerous partnership up front and keeping the pressure on the Eclipse back line.

The game changed however, with the introduction of Lilliah Blum from the bench.  Shortly after entering, Blum chased down a long a ball that looked to be heading out of play, and rounded her marker on the end-line before beating the goalkeeper at her near post to equalize.

With the score level, FC Wisconsin entered the second half full of confidence and were in front soon after. Blum again caused problems for the Eclipse defenders, this time drawing pressure before finding Nebel who calmly slotted home the go-ahead goal. There were still chances in the game for both teams, however defenders Sam Surges and Lillie Tabor were in no mood to let the lead slip.  Annabelle Pollock cleared brilliantly off the line, before Blum sealed the win with her second goal of the game.

With another good weekend in the books, FC Wisconsin will head to Eclipse Lunar in two weeks’ time, before rounding out the ECNL season with a pair of very tough games against Minnesota Thunder Academy.
